'Turtle in Paradise' Graphic Novel in the Works

An award-winning piece of historical fiction for younger readers will get a new lease on life next year, as Jennifer L. Holm’s Turtle in Paradise will receive an adaptation in comic book format, courtesy of Random House Graphic.

Set during the Great Depression, Turtle in Paradise centers around Turtle, an 11-year-old sent to live with an aunt and cousins in Florida she’s never met, and the world she builds for herself out of unfamiliar surroundings. In its original 2010 prose incarnation, it received a Newbery Honor and won the Golden Kite Award. The graphic novel is adapted by Savanna Ganucheau (Bloom, Lumberjanes).

The new edition of Turtle in Paradise follows in the footsteps of other graphic novel adaptations of successful middle grade and YA prose properties, including A Wrinkle in Time, The Golden Compass and Beautiful Creatures, each of which have built their own fanbases in their own right.
